Insurance & Billing
Insurance arrangements differ between plans, and the details matter enough that they are worth confirming directly with the office rather than assumed from a website.
Before your appointment
- Check whether your plan requires a referral from your primary care physician
- Check whether prior authorisation is needed for the visit or for any imaging
- Have your insurance card available when you call the office
- Ask about your plan’s deductible, co-payment and coinsurance as they apply to specialist visits
Accepted insurance
The list of accepted plans is maintained by the practice.
Surgery and billing
Surgery generally involves more than one bill - the surgeon, the facility and the anaesthesia provider bill separately. Hand therapy is usually billed separately again.
The office can help you understand what to expect before a procedure, and can assist with authorisation.
Questions
Do I need a referral?
That depends on your insurance plan rather than on the practice. Some plans require a referral from a primary care physician for a specialist visit and some do not. The office can advise once they know your plan.
Will my surgery be covered?
Reconstructive hand surgery is generally covered when it is medically necessary, but coverage and prior-authorisation requirements vary between plans. The office can help establish what your plan requires before anything is scheduled.

Consultations begin with understanding your symptoms, what you can no longer do comfortably, and what has already been tried.
